Today at Browns Camp (from August 27, 2009)

Dear Mr Hewlitt,

Wow did we work hard today! I was the designated tackling dummy and even though I couldn't move, my practice gear was still clean after the drill. Coach was a little wee weed off but he calmed down before our chalk talk. We don't have a film team, but we do have chalkboards and flannel boards. Its really neat to see him moving players on the flannel board but sometimes this new fangled stuff makes my head spin.

Coach reminded us of your inspirational talk yesterday. Hearing about guys like Lou Groza, Frank Ryan, Gary Collins and Paul Warfield even got Coach excited about getting out of Donkeyville and actually winning a couple of games this year.

But Ive really been thinking about what you said about women. "Find a gal who is smarter than you and prettier than you. Then hope she will overlook your flaws and carry you for the next 60 years." Wow! Its just like my grandad said. Old people know stuff. I miss Bambi but I'm gonna call her.

Coach had a real solem idea tonight. After we did our ritual with the Touchdown Bernie statue, Coach took a collection in his hat for a very special man. It seems that a real important guy died-think his name was Kennedy but not from the family back home. It seems that there was a man-Coach called him a bartender -who worked where this Kennedy lived. Coach said that this mans business will be really hurt by Kennedys death, so we all pitched in to help the family. At Noter Dame, they told us that Pres Obama wouldnt let this kind of thing happen. Please pray for this bartender.

Your friend
